J.F.B. Lunches for Bishop Sullivan Center 2019 – Present

With the unexpected pandemic, Bishop Sullivan was forced to close their One City Café. Simultaneously, Ellen Baty was looking for a way to honor John with his first birthday since losing him. Working together with Tom Turner, Director & President of Bishop Sullivan Center, they decided preparing meals for the homeless would be the most beneficial. With the generous help of friends, we organize and prepare approximately 300 meals for the homeless each week. This began as a one time event in honor of his birthday and has continued every week since for over two years.

J.F.B. St. Nick’s Day at Bishop Sullivan 2019

This was an especially difficult first holiday season after losing John. In an effort to keep his memory alive during the holiday season, the Baty family began looking for causes to give to in his name. John regularly donated to Bishop Sullivan as well as attended their annual events. This began an annual tradition of sponsoring the dinner at One City Café on St. Nick’s Day, December 6th. One City Café, a restaurant style community kitchen, welcomes all for a delicious, healthy dinner every weeknight. Additionally, we collected hats and gloves to give to those in need. In total, 252 sets of hats and gloves were given out to men, women and children. It was on a particularly cold and windy day. Volunteers reported hearing a lot of “Oh, thank you so much!”, “I really needed these, thank you.” and “Wow, God is good!” as they were reaching for their meal ticket and gifted with these items as well.
